Gay Card is our VP of Finance and Administration & CFO and has been with Gorbel® for 13 years!
What is a normal day like for you?
I try to start my day with a plan of what I will accomplish, but my days do not often play out as I have planned in my head. That’s okay by me – I like the diversity of work that I have on any given day/week and find that I thrive in that kind of an environment. There is never a shortage of great projects at Gorbel®.
How long have you been at Gorbel®?
I have been with Gorbel® 13 years. Well – really started with The Raytec Group supporting not only Gorbel® but also Retrotech and Ravenwood. I started as the Finance Manager was promoted to Controller and then to CFO.
What’s your life like outside of the office?
I have been married to my husband John for 31 years and have 2 sons – Dillon (26) and Cameron (22). I live in Victor and have strong family roots here. My husband and I built our house on land that used to be part of my grandfather’s dairy farm. My sister lives in the original farm house across the road.
Who is your role model and why?
My father. He started working at Gleason Works right out of high school and learned every part of the business. He literally started by sweeping the shop floor. He held many positions in that organization, learning as much as he could along the way. He went into Sales for Gleason and ultimately took a job as VP of Sales and Marketing with Illinois Gear relocating our family to a suburb of Chicago. He travelled every week for most of my youth and yet managed to always make his family a priority. He had an incredible sense of fun that made work seem like play and he taught me that no goal in life was unattainable.
What do you wish people knew about Gorbel®?
It’s what we experience every day and what we hear from dealers and others who visit our campus – it’s the culture. Our mission, vision, and foundational values are real and not just some words on a wall. I also wish people knew how much fun we have here. I saw something posted on social media that said if you want to know if you work in a positive environment, count how many times a day you hear laughter. How about how many times in an hour?
What is your favorite part of your job?
I would have to say that the favorite part of my job is getting to work with such a great group of people. I know it sounds cliché but I learn every day from the people around me and that is energizing.
What is your favorite memory from your time here at Gorbel®?
There are many – but I would have to say participating in the 10 year anniversary celebration for Gorbel® Tianjin and the 40 year anniversary celebration here in the US. They were both such incredible milestones and I was lucky to experience both of them first hand.
What motivates you to do what you do here? What are you most excited about?
Leading Finance, IT, and Facilities – 3 “support departments” - it is very motivating to be able to provide information that enables decision making around various business imperatives or that enables employees through new technology or a great physical environment in which to work.
